Albinism is a rare of skin disease where the individuals have puny or no melanin pigment left in their skin, hair, and eyes. Albinism is a disease, which is as old as the healing literature itself. However, the first ever reported case of albinism that scientifically came up was in the year 1908. Most of the individuals that have suffered from albinism have a long history of being ostracized and rebuked by the society. Citizen tend to avoid individuals suffering from albinism solely based on their outer appearance.
However, albinism has a deep history connected along with it. Citizen suffering from albinism have been always discriminated based on their appearance. A large amount of books and movies have criticized albinism. Citizen used to describe it to factors, such as danger, terror and Citizen suffering from albinism had criminal tendencies.
Damage History
Albinism, as a disease has always been maladjusted and under socialized. Their pale skin and white hair was a foreign concept that of course served as a way of redemption of their sins, which the patients had committed in their former birth.
There have also been a large amount of myths and superstitions connected with albinism. The most favorite myth concerning albinism in Zimbabwe is that having sex with a woman having albinism can help an Hiv infected man to cure himself. This age-old myth has led to a large amount of albinism affected women in the area being raped and thus, being infected by the Hiv virus in the name of cure.
